OCBC Arena, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 — Defending national champions North Vista Secondary (NV) eased past Marsiling Secondary (MS) 132-26 in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

The win gives North Vista a 2-0 win-loss record after their opening 73-15 win over Woodlands Ring Secondary.

Marsiling drop to a 0-2 record with this loss. They lost 18-25 to Maris Stella High in their opening game.

Sim Yi (NV #5) had a game-high 30 points, including five 3-pointers, while Tan Meng Kiat (MS #2) led his team with 10.

By the end of the first quarter, North Vista had already secured a clear lead, with a score of 38-6.

Despite the odds, Marsiling Secondary played on relentlessly, improving enough in the second quarter to score more points than the first.

Even though they trailed 15-72 at half time and could not stop North Vista from breaching the 100-point mark in the third quarter, they did not give up and played on gamely.

Recalling their opening game against Maris Stella, Liow Kai Lun (MS #7) said, “The team did better the last time round against Maris Stella, even though we lost by 7 points.

“Our defense was good and we had a lead in the first three quarters. We kept our starting five in the fourth quarter to try to win but we were too tired.”

“This time against North Vista, passing was quite good and acceptable against a strong team. Offense and defense, not too good.”
