Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, May 11, 2016 — Meridian Junior College (MJC) defeated Millenia Institute (MI) 10-1, securing their fifth win of the season and a spot in the semi-finals of the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship.

MJC have a perfect 5-0 win-loss record while MI drop to a 2-1-2 win-draw-loss record.

Emily Ong (MJC #88), Ho Lin Xuan (MJC #23), and Alfie Kwa (MJC #36) scored two goals apiece while Nurul Irdina (MI #9) scored her team’s only goal.

A close-range shot by Emily (MJC #88) barely two minutes into the first period got the scoring going. MJC’s aggressive defense made it difficult for MI to get a shot in.

Olivia Thomson (MJC #77) scored her team’s second goal, getting in a shot right in front of the net past MI goalkeeper Nadian (MI #11).

A well-timed pass from Alfie (MJC #36) allowed Lin Xuan (MJC #23) to score frmo a point-blank shot, widening the lead to 3-0 by the end of the first period.

The second period saw Alfie (MJC #36) scoring two consecutive goals within 10 seconds of each other, the second one a point-blank side shot.

The seamless MJC teamwork and smooth passing, as well as their sound defence, allowed them to further widen the lead to 7-0 in their best played period.

In the final period, Nur Irdina (MI #9) scored MI’s first and only goal from a long-range shot that got past MJC goalkeeper Sandra (MJC #85). Despite the large deficit, the final few minutes saw MI still fighting hard.

MJC captain Lin Xuan (MJC #23) said, “Both teams fought hard and we will continue to fight hard.”
