Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 – Raffles Institution (RI) beat Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) 50-26 in their opening Round 2 game of the National A Division Basketball Championship.

RI remain undefeated and improve to a 6-0 win-loss record. For HCI, who finished Round 1 with a 3-1 record, this is their second loss of the season.

RI took control of the game almost immediately. They managed to secure an early 7-2 three minutes into the game.

They continued to attack aggressively and they were leading 15-2 with two minutes left on the clock. An HCI rally saw RI take a 19-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

It was a low-scoring 2nd quarter where HCI failed to score a single point. RI worked well as a team with many assists and rebounds but they managed just four points as they further extended their lead to 23-10 at half time.

Three minutes into the 3rd quarter, RI extended their lead to 27-10. HCI fought hard to match RI’s point for point but RI still led 31-18 heading into the fourth.

HCI struggled to keep up as RI poured in the points to lead 40-20 three minutes into the final quarter. RI dropped another 10 points to wrap up the 50-26 win.

RI will next take on Meridian Junior College on Friday, May 6, while HCI will also face MJC next, but on Monday, May 9.
