Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 – Raffles Institution (RI) and National Junior College (NJC) were both unable to score as they played out a rare goalless draw in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship.

The match was a close one as both teams went back and forth with many opportunities to score. Both teams were aggressive in offence but many shot attempts went wide and the few shots on target were saved by the keeper.

In the second period, RI were down two players for two-minute penalties while NJC lost one, making it a 4 vs 3 match. Despite having the upper hand, NJC could not find the net as RI upped their defence.

RI had an impressive defence and blocked many shots. However, they were too aggressive and had a total of 5 two-minute penalties called during the game for pushing or slashing.

Rachel Park (#13), captain of RI, said, “We definitely had fun on court. We went in with no expectations and treasured every moment. We hope to be able to improve on our finishing touches and have more discipline. I think it was an exciting first experience for most of the team and the team has things to reflect on and areas for improvement, myself included. But we are looking forward to our next games and trainings.”

Captain of NJC, said, “I think the game was a good experience for all of us. We weren’t sure of how our opponents will be but we gave our best shot and we are hoping to improve on this in other matches. I think it is a lot about communication, so we can definitely aim to improve our consciousness on court to look out for one another. It was a very exhilarating game, we were not sure when the score line would change but we did give our best so it feels good.”

NJC next face River Valley High School while RI will go up against Catholic Junior College on Wednesday, April 20.
