Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 — Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) overcame Catholic Junior College (CJC) 3-2 in the preliminary round of the National A Division Floorball Championship.

Manisha Magar (CJC #11) drew first blood in the opening period, coming in from the side to shoot into the top right corner of the net, making it 1-0.

Chen Ming Yue (HCI #8) replied from a free hit, driving the ball past many CJC defenders and the goalkeeper to make it 1-1. Teammate Lim Shing (HCI #20) then added another goal shortly after to give HCI a slight 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

CJC bagged the only goal in the second period through Rachel Tan (CJC #22) who managed to trick the HCI goalkeeper to tie the game 2-2.

The last period proved exciting as both teams put up a fight. HCI came close on many occasions, but the shots were either slightly off target or the CJC goalkeeper saved.

With three minutes left on the clock, Shauna Hun (CJC #26) was given a two-minute penalty. This proved to be the turning point of the game as HCI made use of their one-man advantage to score the winning goal through Megan Wong (HCI #23) to wrap up the 3-2 victory.

HCI will next face off against Yishun Junior College, while CJC will play Raffles Institution.
