Hougang Sports Hall, Monday, April 11, 2016 — Defending champions Raffles Institution (RI) edged out Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) 6-0 in their opening preliminary round game of the National A Division Floorball Championship.
Silas Choe (HCI #11) was the top scorer of the game with three goals.
Despite conceding six goals in the game, HCI goalkeeper Yeo Bo Wen (HCI #8) made many good saves to prevent RI from scoring even more.
RI were dominant from beginning to end, with HCI finding it difficult to break through.
Deafening team cheers from RI and HCI supporters signalled the start of the game.
Silas Choe (RI #11) drew first blood with a shot that landed in the bottom left of the goal. Teammate Marcus Chua (RI #23) then unleashed a long range shot from half court to double the lead. Silas Choe (RI #11) then fired a back shot which found its target to give RI a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Just a minute into the second period, Muhammad Haziq (RI #29) flew past several HCI defenders and beat the HCI goalkeeper with a clean shot to make it 4-0.
Silas Choe (RI #11) then completed his hat-trick, slotting a mid-air ball into goal to make it 5-0. Sean Toh (RI #8) then made it 6-0 before the end of the second period.
RI scoring dried up in the last period, while HCI stepped up their game. Both teams moments came close to scoring while the keepers kept shots out. However, RI had done enough in the first two periods to seal the win.
RI next play Pioneer Junior College while HCI will take on Innova Junior College.
