Hougang Sports Hall, Monday, April 11, 2016 — Millennia Institute (MI) defeated Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) 10-1 in the preliminary round of the National A Division Floorball Championship.

Nurul Irdina Bte Zulkefli (MI #9) and Nur Iylianah Bte Muhammad J L (MI #19) were the top scorers of the game with four goals each.

In a game where Millennia Institute dominated from start to end, Nanyang Junior College barely had any good look-outs.

Both schools employed different defensive tactics – NYJC tended to crowd around the goal to use their body to block the ball, while MI played a zone mark.

Fifteen seconds coming into the game, Nur Iylianah Bte Muhammad J L (MI #19) flew past the NYJC defenders and struck the ball into goal for a 1-0 lead.

For the next 10 minutes, it remained scoreless until Nurul Irdina (MI #9) made it 2-0.

Nadia Bte Mohd Ali (NYJC #9) replied soon after by putting a clean shot into the middle of the net, making it 1-2 by the end of the first period.

MI exploded for five goals in the second period.

Syakirah Bte Amran (MI #3) unleashed a long range drag shot from half court to widen the lead to 3-1. Nurul Irdina (MI #9) then scored for a 4-1 lead.

Nur Iylianah (MI #19) made it 5-1 for MI when she put the ball into the top right corner of the goal after coming in from the side. Nurul Irdina (MI #9) scored another goal again to widen the score to 6-1. The NYJC goalkeeper then conceded an own goal to give MI a 7-1 lead at the end of the second period.

It was all MI again in the last period, with NYJC finding it difficult to break down the MI defense.

Two Aisyah Bte Sidik (MI #17) assists allowed Nurul Irdina (MI #9) to score her fourth and fifth goals to make it 9-1. Nur Iylianah (MI #19) then drove the ball high into the goal to seal the 10-1 victory.

MI will next face off against Victoria Junior College, while NYJC will play Tampines Junior College.
