Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, April 11, 2016 – Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) defeated Yishun Junior College (YJC) 40-17 in their opening game of the National A Division Girls Basketball Championship.

Lim Ke An (#11) of YJC had a game-high 12 points while Wivina Siah (#17) led NYJC with 10.

The first quarter started off slow, with Teo Wei Xin (NYJC #8) scoring the first basket of the game at the 3-minute mark. This was countered almost immediately by Gladys Chia (YJC #12) who tied it up.

With 3 minutes left in the quarter, YJC held a slim 7-6 lead but they found added momentum to widen their lead to 10-6. In the last minute of the quarter, Chua Yi Jing (NYJC #3) drove to score, closing the deficit to two (8-10).

NYJC started the 2nd quarter with a 10-0 run with points coming from Chong Shi Ya (NYJC #2), Clarrisa Annkatrin (NYJC #6), and Sim Zhi Ting (NYJC #9) who drew a foul and sank her free throw. Just two minutes into the quarter, NYJC now held an 18-10 lead. Sim Zhi Ting (NYJC #9) then followed up with a 3-pointerto make it 22-12 for NYJC at the half way mark of the quarter.

YJC fought back through Moo Zhe Ning (YJC #6) who scored two points on a drive but YJC continued to have trouble getting the ball up the court. By half time, NYJC led 28-14.

In the third quarter, YJC go on a 6-5 run to reduce the deficit slight to eight points (20-28) at the 5-minute mark. However, NYJC pulled away again through Natrecia Tsai (NYJC #1) and Nicole Ching (NYJC #7) to build a 10-point, 32-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

NYJC put together a 12-2 run in the first 7 minutes of the final quarter with Nicole Ching (NYJC #7), Chua Yi Jing (NYJC #3) and Guan Ming Sia (NYJC #1) scoring. With 3 minutes to go, NYJC led 44-24.

Lim Ke An (YJC #11) managed another two points for YJC but Wivina Siah (NYJC #17) scored four unanswered points in the last minute to wrap up a 48-26 win for NYJC.
