Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, April 6, 2016 – Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) defeated Dunman High School (DHS) 40-17 in their opening game of the National A Division Girls Basketball Championship.

Chloe Yan (#6) had a game-high 12 points for HCI.

HCI had a strong start, with quick points from Jacqueline Yong (#7), Chloe Yan (#6), and Natasha Ng (#13) with a 3-pointer. Selina Ang (#8) finally got the scoring going for DHS. HCI then struggled to keep up with the pace of the game and the first quarter ended with a tie at 9-all.

HCI picked up the pace in the 2nd quarter. Boon Jia Hwee (HCI #5) drove and scored two points right to start the second quarter. The game then entered a dry spell with no scoring before Oor Yuwen (HCI #8) finally sank a basket. HCI then went on a roll, widening the gap to lead 25-9 by the end of the third quarter as they held Dunman High scoreless over two quarters.

In the 4th quarter, DHS rallied. They started the quarter strong with a 3-pointer by Clara Ho (#11). DHS eventually managed eight points in the quarter but HCI did enough to wrap up a 40-17 win.
