Delta Sports Hall, Monday, February 29, 2016 — Chay Wen Fu (Yuying #6) scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the final quarter as Yuying Secondary mounted a 2nd half comeback to beat Guangyang Secondary 69-59 and booked their place in the final of the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Ariel Lee (Yuying #11) chipped in with 12 points in the victory while Guangyang had balanced scoring from the trio of Gerald (#12), Irfan (#30) and Nowis (#14). They combined for 39 points in the contest.

Yuying were in the lead throughout the 1st quarter before a 3-pointer by Yijian (Guangyang #6) put the team in white up 10-9 with 1:56 to go in the 1st.

Guangyang then went on a 10-2 run to close out the half, extending their lead to 29-22 after two quarters played.

Both team continued to battle hard in the 3rd quarter as the pace of the game picked up. Chay Wen Fu (Yuying #6) hit one of his game-high four 3-pointers with 6.1s left in the quarter as Yuying closed in on Guangyang. It was a one-point game heading into the 4th quarter.

With a final appearance hanging in the balance, Yuying then went on a game-changing 14-2 run in the first 4:35 of the quarter. Chay Wen Fu (Yuying #6) led the surge with eight points which included two 3-pointers. The run swung the tie in Yuying’s favour and put them up double figures for the first time in the game.

Guangyang rallied and came to within five points at 56-51. But Chay Wen Fu (Yuying #6) then scored seven straight points to put Yuying up by nine with 1:55 remaining and the team in blue saw out the game comfortably thereafter to claim a 69-59 victory.

Yuying will be heading for their first final appearance in recent memory and will face Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), who had earlier defeated National Junior College to advance to their fifth straight final. The final will be played at 2.45pm on Thursday, March 4, at Delta Sports Hall.
