Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 – Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) came from behind in the last quarter to draw 25-25 with North Vista Secondary (NV) in round 1 of the North Zone B Division Netball Championship.

SCGS and North Vista had both won their five previous matches and were contenders for top spot in Group D. The draw places SCGS at the top of the group as they have a better total point difference compared to North Vista. Both teams will be moving on to round 2 of the Championship.

The first quarter was heated as both teams displayed tight defence and intercepted passes before it got to the semi-circle. SCGS and North Vista were tied at a low score of 4-4 at the end of the opening quarter.

North Vista took control of the second quarter with their fast plays and accurate passes. SCGS on the other hand, were not able to match up to North Vista on the offensive end and could not score many baskets.

North Vista continued to extend their lead in the third quarter as SCGS trailed closely behind. Despite being down, SCGS managed seven points in the third aided by a high team morale. The third quarter ended with North Vista holding a six-point, 23-17 lead.

It was in the fourth quarter when SCGS rallied and turned the tables on North Vista. A solid defence and sharp shooting by Xanthia Lye (SCGS GS) led the comeback. Both teams went back and forth till the final whistle but it ended in a 25-25 draw.
