Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 – Raffles Institution (RI) brushed aside Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) (ACSI) 19-1 in the National B Division Floorball Championship preliminary round.

Andre Chan (RI #6) and Muhammad Zafranshah (RI #10) had a game high of four goals each. Elliot Teng (ACSI #13) scored the only goal for his team.

It was clear from the start that RI had the upper hand with their swift passes and fluid team play although ACS(I) fought hard to keep pace and made a few shots on target.

RI took control of the game, scoring six goals in both the first and the second period. ACSI seldom had possession of the ball and mostly played defence as RI kept the ball in the attacking half.

RI played their best in the last period, scoring three goals in under a minute. After many shot attempts by ACS(I), they finally managed to score a goal at the 10 minute mark of the third quarter.

Jerome Boh (#11), captain of RI, said, “I think it was a good game because to get into round 2 we needed to play well for this match and our team did that. We believe that no matter what, as long as you tried your best that is all that matters.”

He added, “I think we still need to improve in terms of our defending because we conceded one cheap goal due to a defending error. Not that just once, but we also let a few shots past us.”

RI will go up against Kent Ridge while ACS(I) next face Orchid Park.

If RI win their next match against Kent Ridge, they will be tied on points with East Spring at the top of the preliminary round Group D and will move on to Round 2.

ACS(I) previously lost to both Kent Ridge and East Spring and did not qualify for Round 2.
