Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, February 15, 2016 – Jurong Secondary (JSS) defeated Unity Secondary (USS) 68-23 for their fourth straight win in the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Jurong’s Ker Wen Qi (#7) and Siti Suhaila (#11) both had a game high of 14 points while Nuradilah (#11) led her team with 6 points.

Jurong started strong with a fast break lay-up by Ker Wen Qi (#7) to score the first basket. From then on, Jurong took control of the game with their fast and fluid plays to score 21 points in the first quarter.

Unity were overwhelmed in the first quarter but picked up momentum and managed to keep Jurong from scoring as much in the second.

Determined to equalise, Unity pressured Jurong with a full court press in the third quarter. However, Jurong remained composed and made early passes to counter their defense. It was a one-sided affair as Jurong dominated with a 12-0 run to end the third quarter leading 47-15. Olivia Ee (#30) was responsible for the only point for Unity in that quarter.

Unity never gave up and fought hard till the end, scoring the most points in the fourth quarter. However, it was not enough to beat Jurong’s defence as they intercepted passes and continued to score from fast break lay-ups.

Alicia Quek (#9), Jurong’s captain, said, “The game was quite tough. I think we did better but we missed a lot of shots. The team played well but can be better.”

Ker Wen Qi (#7), vice captain of Jurong, added, “The fighting spirit was very high.”

This is Jurong’s fourth straight win and they next face Jurong West Secondary in the Semi-Final. Unity have made it into the semi-final as well and will go up against Nanyang Girls’ High School. Both games will be held on Friday, March 4.
