Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 — Orchid Park Secondary (OPSS) had no trouble sweeping past Hua Yi Secondary (HYSS) 19–3 in the National B Division Girls Floorball Championship preliminary round, in the process recording their third win in as many games.

OPSS had earlier beaten Spectra Secondary 25–0 and last year’s 3rd runners-up Teck Whye Secondary 5–4.

As for Hua Yi, the result leaves their win-loss record at 1–2 after they beat Spectra 9–0 but lost to Tanjong Katong Secondary 0–16.

Within the first four minutes of the game, OPSS had raced to a 2–0 lead in quick succession through goals by Ke Yuxin (#3) and Daphne Tan (#16). This was however countered swiftly by a Hua Yi goal through Star Julia (#23).

OPSS added three more goals afterwards to accelerate into a seemingly unassailable 5–1 lead but Nurul Liza (HYSS #17) had other ideas. She pulled two goals back for Hua Yi one after another to close the gap to only two goals.

Then in the last four minutes of the first period, OPSS shot back with three more goals to begin pulling away again. It all started with a penalty by Syafiqah Edris (OPSS #9), which was then followed by a decent goal from Nilam Marjanee (OPSS #4) who skipped past a defender with deft stickwork before slotting the ball in. A goal by Nurul Izzah (OPSS #2) 30 seconds from time ended proceedings in the first period.

From the second period onwards, it seemed like Hua Yi had lost steam as they could not find a way back anymore. Instead, OPSS hit five without reply in the second period to put the game beyond doubt.

If Hua Yi thought that was the end of their suffering, they were wrong as OPSS compounded their misery even further by adding six more goals in the final period.

In the process, Ke Yuxin (OPSS #3) and Nurul Izzah (OPSS #2) also completed their impressive tally of four goals each while Daphne Tan (OPSS #16) also managed to finish with three goals to her name.

OPSS will try to aim for their fourth win in four games when they meet Tanjong Katong Secondary next on Monday, February 22 at Hougang Sports Hall.

Although OPSS have won all three of their games so far, their progress into the second round of the competition is still not yet a certainty as their coach cautioned that there could still be a three-way battle for the top two spots in their group.

As for Hua Yi, they next meet Greendale Secondary on the same day and at the same venue.
