OCBC Arena, Monday, February 15, 2016 – Holy Innocents’ High School (HIHS) came from behind to triumph 38-37 over Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary (KCPSS) in the National B Division Basketball Championship.
This is Holy Innocents’ first win in Round 2, after going down to National Junior College previously by just four points. As for Kuo Chuan, this was their second loss of Round 2.
Gildon Tan (KCPSS #13) had a game high of 24 points while Razzif Bin Ismail (HIHS #20) had a team high of 12.
A close first quarter saw it end in a 12-12 tie. In the second quarter, Kuo Chuan outscored their opponents 11-6 to pull away and lead 23-18 at half time.
The third quarter saw an aggressive comeback by Holy Innocents’ as they outscored Kuo Chuan 11-7. Both Razzif (HIHS #20) and Daniel Ho (HIHS #25) played a huge role in the comeback as they led their team in scoring, causing the Holy Innocents’ bench to break out in loud cheers with every basket scored.
The final quarter proved to be the most exciting. With just 2 minutes left on the clock, Holy Innocents’ led by just one point (36-35). Gildon Tan (KCPSS #13) then made a shot and to give his team a 37-36 lead. It proved to be insufficient, however, when Razzif (HIHS #20) bagged two free throws to win the game 38-37.
Eugene Chua (HIHS #36), Holy Innocents’ captain, said, “After the loss in the previous match, we learned from our mistakes and improved a lot. Thus in today’s match we tried to play our best and make no mistakes.”
