Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 — It was a one-sided affair as Serangoon Garden Secondary (SGS) brushed aside Kent Ridge Secondary 13–0 to improve to a 2–1 win-loss record in the National B Division Girls Floorball Championships preliminary round.
Serangoon Garden had previously beaten Bukit View Secondary 7–1 but lost to East View Secondary 1–5. For Kent Ridge, this is their third loss after falling to Bukit View and Springfield Secondary 1–10 and 0–14 respectively.
Shahirah Begum (SGS #12) led the scoring with a whopping six goals, while Sandy Koh (SGS #35) and Iffah Firzanah (SGS #18) also chipped in with three each. The remaining goal was scored by Tricia Toh (SGS #14).
Serangoon Garden combined good team play and non-hesitant shooting to prove a handful for their Kent Ridge counterparts.
Serangoon Garden still has a decent chance of progressing to the second round of the competition, as they are now tied on points with East View at the top of the preliminary round Group H standings, albeit having already played one game more. The top two teams from each group will progress to Round 2.
However, Serangoon Garden will need to get a good result in their last preliminary game against a strong Springfield Secondary side, who are last year’s National 1st runners-up. The game will be played on Monday, February 29 at Victoria School.
For Kent Ridge, any chance of them qualifying for Round 2 has been eliminated but they will want a consolation against East View to end their season on a high. The match will also be played on February 29 at Hougang Sports Hall.
