OCBC Arena, Friday, February 11, 2016 — Fairfield Methodist School beat Queenstown Secondary 69-33 in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

This is Fairfield’s first win in Round 2 after coming out first in their Round 1 grouping.

Fairfield’s Xavier (#13) and Timothy (#4) scored a game high of 14 points each while Queenstown’s #8 followed closely behind with 12 points.

The first quarter saw Queenstown leading in the first 5 minutes as they were able to intercept quite a few of Fairfield’s passes and score points.

However, Fairfield tightened on their defense and managed to snatch a few defensive rebounds and score fast breaks to take back the lead.

The first two quarters saw a lot of interception from both teams but it was Fairfield who were able to convert the interceptions into points. Fairfield also had a strong attack by continuously swinging around the ball and aggressively driving in. By the end of the 2nd quarter, Queenstown were trailing Fairfield 9-33.

The 3rd quarter saw Fairfield switching to a full court press which pressured Queenstown into committing mistakes. As a result, Fairfield were able to intercept quite a few of Queenstown’s passes and score fast breaks.

However, Queenstown also became more aggressive in their defense and they managed to catch quite a lot of defensive rebounds and score their fast breaks. This managed to reduce the large point difference.

Unfortunately, a series of fouls committed by Queenstown on Fairfield saw Fairfield getting quite a few free throws. The success of Fairfield’s free throws further widened the point difference. Fairfield led 55-22 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter saw Fairfield turning up their attack by a notch and many of their attempts of shooting beyond the 3-point line was successful. In turn, Queenstown also became more aggressive in their attack and managed to catch more offensive rebounds and score again.

Despite trailing quite far behind Fairfield, Queenstown kept up their aggressive defense which made it quite difficult for Fairfield to drive in and score. Fairfield ended the 4th quarter with a 69-33 win.

Fairfield’s captain, Justin Lum (#7) said, “I thank God for win and also that we really showed them what Fairfield is made of. We had good teamwork and our shots were going in. I hope that we can continue this performance for the rest of the round.”
