Hougang Sports Hall, Monday, January 25, 2016 — St. Margaret’s Secondary put up a strong all-round performance to defeat Bishan Park Secondary 10-1 in the National B Division Floorball Championship.
Led by three goals from Nurliza Bte Suni (#4), a spirited St. Margaret’s team secured victory in their opening game of the season. Tay Gek Hui (#12) scored Bishan Park’s only goal in the match.
It did not take long for St. Margaret’s to get on the scoresheet, with Nurliza Bte Suni (SMSS #4) firing a shot into the Bishan Park goal after 50 seconds played. The goal sparked wild celebrations from the St. Margaret’s players both on and off the court.
With 11:12 still to play in the opening period, Bishan Park equalised through Tay Gek Hui (#12). It was game-on with the game tied at 1-1.
The highlight of the game came in the 2nd period when Nurliza Bte Suni (#4) scored a rarely seen penalty goal and extended St. Margaret’s lead to three goals.
St. Margaret’s players were a highly energetic bunch, cheering on and shouting instructions to their teammates throughout the game. The positive atmosphere within the St. Margaret’s camp would prove decisive as they scored nine goals without reply after Bishan Park’s equaliser to run out 10-1 winners.
With regard to their performance in the opening match, Ashmita (#1) of St. Margaret’s said, “I feel that we could have done much better but it is our first game so we got a bit nervous. We are aiming to be champs this season.”
