Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 — North Vista defeated North View Secondary in a David vs Goliath contest, winning 131-18 in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
North Vista had three players finishing with 20 points or more, led by Cheng Ye Hui’s (#7) 27 points. North View’s #12 finished with a team-leading 6 points in the loss.
North Vista broke the 100-point barrier for the second time in three days, following their 122-33 victory over Northland Secondary on Monday.
It was all North Vista from start to finish. North Vista used a full court press to devastating effect throughout the game as North View barely had a chance to pass half court.
On the few occasions when North View managed to do so, North Vista’s suffocating half-court defense forced their opponents into countless turnovers.
North Vista started the game on a 21-0 run before North View’s #12 made a jumper with 4:50 left in the 1st quarter to score North View’s first points. Thereafter, a 16-1 run would help North Vista to a 34-point, 1st-quarter lead. North Vista were so dominant that the game was effectively over after 10 minutes.
It was more of the same in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, with North Vista amassing a stunning 91 points after only three quarters.
North View, however, were rewarded in the 4th quarter for their effort. They scored a respectable 13 points in the final quarter and surpassed the total they had in the first three periods. North View made two three-pointers in the final 10 minutes.
North Vista though would record a 40-point quarter themselves and scored 131 points in the most one-sided display of the 2016 season to date.
North Vista next take on Montfort while North View next face Northland. Both games will be played on Wednesday, 25 January, at Singapore Basketball Centre.
