Anglican High School, Tuesday, 19 January, 2016 — Anglican High School (AHS) put up a sterling performance as they defeated Tanjong Katong Girls’ Secondary (TKGS) 67-7 in their opening game of the East Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
Carissa Chan (AHS #7) led with a game-high of 19 points, while #14 from TKGS led her team with three.
Carissa (AHS #7) scored the first four baskets of the match, including a three-pointer, to the cheers of the home spectators. She scored another three-pointer in the same quarter, and with a three-pointer from teammate Fionn (AHS #6), Anglican High led 26-4 by the end of the quarter. TKGS #14 dropped a three-pointer in the quarter to give her team something to cheer.
In the second quarter, Anglican High pulled further away, with TKGS unable to breach their tight defence. Hui Juan (AHS #5) scored six out of the 11 points in the quarter for Anglican High.
The third quarter saw Anglican High giving no mercy to TKGS, with their excellent teamwork and defensive techniques. Anglican High’s passing was smooth and they had minimal turnovers.
TKGS #12 scored their first point in two quarters from a free throw but the last five baskets from Anglican High in the final two minutes of the quarter saw them outscore TKGS 23-2, their highest scoring in a quarter.
By the final quarter, both teams were visibly exhausted and for the first three minutes, there was no scoring. A three-point shot by Joyce (AHS #11) highlighted the quarter, while TKGS managed a point in the quarter through a free throw by TKGS #11.
Anglican High captain Carissa (AHS #7) said, “I think we played okay, but we need to improve on our defence for the next match. We did well in our offence though.”
