Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 – Naval Base Secondary beat Northbrooks Secondary 46-22 in their opening game of Round 1 in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
In the first quarter, Northbrooks had a slow start with Wu Jiasheng (#14) scoring his team’s only point.
Naval Base captain, Koh Wei Guan (#7), ended the quarter with a three-pointer to give his team a 12-point, 13-1 lead.
Naval Base outscored Northbrooks 14-6 in the second quarter to build a 27-7 lead at half time.
Nevertheless, Northbrooks fought hard to narrow the gap, outscoring Naval Base 13-8 in the third quarter. It was Northbrooks’ highest-scoring quarter, and their efforts reduced the deficit to 15 points.
However, Naval Base continued to pressure Northbrooks with a tight defence, allowing Northbrooks only three points in the fourth quarter. Naval Base monopolized on steals and fast breaks to secure a 46-22 win.
Naval Base captain, Koh Wei Guan (#7), led all scorers with 26 points yet he stayed humble and warned against being complacent. Regarding the game, he said, “The team played well but still needs to work on defence and shooting.”
Naval Base are aiming to get into the second round and will face Marsiling Secondary next.
