Yishun Sports Hall, Wednesday, September 2, 2015 — Tanjong Katong Secondary regained their status as National C Division Girls’ Floorball Champions in only their third year of playing the sport, defeating fellow powerhouses St. Margaret’s Secondary 6–2 in the final.

While still regarded as a relatively fresh face in the floorball fraternity, Tanjong Katong are not to be belittled, as they are making their third consecutive final appearance. They last won the title in 2013.

“It was actually very tough for the girls in the first round, but we managed to make it through to the second round and improve from there,” said 50-year-old Ngasti Wanto Zakaria, who has been coaching the girls since the team was formed.

“These girls are getting better with every game and I’m glad that they are maintaining what they have been doing throughout.

“To be able to come this far with them, I’m very happy. Credits and glory go to them.”

Both teams had earlier met in the second round, where Tanjong Katong were 8–4 victors.

Tanjong Katong dominated right from the beginning, swinging their way to a comfortable 4–0 lead at the end of the second period, led by forward Chan Shi Hui (#42).

In the third period, St. Margaret’s breathed down Tanjong Katong’s neck, responding goal for goal, but it was not enough as Tanjong Katong eventually clinched the victory by a four-point margin.

“We have been training really hard, staying back after school to train and bond together,” said Chan (#42).

“Throughout this whole experience, I think what’s important is that we had fun and we created many happy memories together,” added the Tanjong Katong captain.

“At first, we didn’t have much confidence, but as we went on, we encouraged each other on and off the court and helped each other out even when we had personal problems to deal with.

“Now we are really proud of all our achievements and how far we have come. That’s what makes us a team.”
