Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 — In their previous match-up in the West Zone semi-final, Bukit Panjang Government High were 63–51 victors.

Today, in their opening game of the second round of the National C Division Basketball Championship, however, the storyline was different.

Jurong Secondary capitalized on a strong offensive output in the third quarter to upset the West Zone champions 63–61.

Bukit Panjang had a balanced output from its players, with Linus Lim (#8) leading the way with 15 points. Whereas for Jurong, the team was largely dependent on Shaun Ong (#13), who had a game-high 27 points to go with 22 rebounds.

While Ong (#13) was benched for most of the second quarter, Bukit Panjang took advantage and extended their lead to eight points.

The Jurong swingman’s return in the third quarter, however, was a bane for Bukit Panjang. Jurong went on to outscore their West Zone counterparts by 11 points to take their first lead of the game.

Despite an and-one basket by Lim (#8) to reclaim Bukit Panjang’s lead, a trey by Wong Choon Yan (#4) sparked a 9–1 run to propel Jurong back into the lead.

With less than two minutes remaining, Bukit Panjang trimmed the deficit to three points with just three seconds to play.

Glen Goh (#6), who was at the line, had to make his first free throw and miss the second, allowing his team to have any chance of victory.

However, Goh’s (#6) second free throw attempt was off the backboard and did not make contact with the ring, awarding the possession to Jurong, who held on for the win.
