Anglican High School, Sunday, July 26, 2015 — Representing SKC, the trio of Vignesh Rengarajan, Shiek Ridwan and Jeryl Neo ousted a 37-team field and hooped their way to the Under-17 boys’ title of the 3×3 basketball competition of the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival 2015.

The trio did not have an easy time as they experienced a scare in their semi-final match against KaiXuan, which featured the likes of former Queensway Secondary one-two frontcourt punch Chua Hao Jun and Angelo Amatril, and Fairfield Methodist School alumnus Bryan Ng.

Ng led a late-game comeback, scoring four two-pointers in just 30 seconds to cut SKC’s lead to two points. However, time was not on their side as SKC managed to whittle down the remaining 20 seconds to advance to the final.

Riding on their victory, they went on to beat Dunman Secondary players Joshua Alas, Shukri, Chua Sheng Da, Marcus and Raymond Chu 11–3 in the final.

KaiXuan made up for their disappointing semi-final loss after, easily beating PIZZA 16–8 in the third-place playoff match.

In the Under-15 category, which had a field of 43 teams, Cheng Ye Hui, Lavin Raj, Dinesh and Xavier Ng of Dream Team were the victors.

The quartet beat Ng Shi Yu, Calvin Liow, Fabian Ng and Kiren Teo of Team Made 10–4 in the semi-final, and went on to clinch a 15–9 victory over Lim Jia Chen, Renneth Tan, Gan Qing Yang and Andy Liow of Dolphin Boys in the final.

Team Made finished as second runners-up, after besting SKC (Red) 22–8 in the third-place playoff match.

First organised by the Singapore Olympic Foundation in 2011, the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival is a fun sporting event for youth athletes aged 18 and below, and serves as a legacy of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, which was held in Singapore in 2010.

Through the festival, the Singapore Olympic Foundation hopes to inspire and bring youth together to foster friendship through sports.

This year’s edition will be held over two weekends from July 25 through August 2 and will comprise nine sports.
