PESEB, Friday, May 8, 2015 — After a tough first set, Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) recovered to win 3–0 over Anderson Junior College (AJC) to finish third in the National A Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship. HCI also finished third in 2014.

AJC’s tactic of dropped shots proved to be effective in the first set as they took the lead at the start.

HCI came back from a shaky start to claim the lead midway into the first game. Mistakes on the part of HCI gave AJC multiple chances to catch-up. However, HCI eventually regained momentum to claim the first set 25–22.

Midway into the second set, HCI established a comfortable lead. From a 6–6 tie, HCI scored nine consecutive points before AJC broke their streak. While AJC continued fighting hard to narrow the deficit, a few mistakes at crucial junctures gave HCI the second set 25–15.

HCI took the lead once more in the last set. With well-aimed spikes, they won unanswered five points before AJC added onto the scoreboard. HCI sealed their victory with a 25–14 win in the third set.

HCI captain, Gwyneth Teo (#1), said, “It was our last game today and so I think we just gave it our best. It is something for us to remember in the future.”

Defending champions, Victoria Junior College, will go up against Nanyang Junior College at Yio Chu Kang Stadium on May 13, 12.15pm in the final match of the championship.
