CHIJ Toa Payoh, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 — A strong second half effort by St. Margaret’s Secondary was not enough as Singapore Sports School (SSP) eventually sealed a 34–31 victory in the semi-final of the National B Division Netball Championship.

Entering the semi-final, St. Margaret’s Secondary remained undefeated while Singapore Sports School recorded their sole loss to CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh).

The first quarter saw both teams taking turns putting up points onto the scoreboard. However, Singapore Sports School managed to extend their lead with their composure and by playing to their game plan. On the other hand, St. Margaret’s seemed unsettled with poor finishing on attacks. SSP led 9–5 at the end of the first quarter.

Sports School continued their dominance by riding on their momentum. They capitalized on playing their trademark aggressive game of fast, swift passes to lead the scoring which left St. Margaret’s struggling on the defensive end.

Returning from the half-time break, St. Margaret’s seemed to have settled into the game, recording a 5–0 run at one point. St. Margaret’s play improved with greater fluidity in their passing but it was not enough to close the deficit. Sports School led 29–19 to close the quarter.

St. Margaret’s kept up with their pace to mount an impressive 8–2 run early into the fourth quarter. St. Margaret’s were also good on the defensive end where they managed several good interceptions. With three minutes left, St. Margaret’s were down 27–32 but put up a strong fight to lift the score to 30–33 with 1:30 to go. Sports School held their ground to seal the game 34–31 to advance to the final.

“I think that all of us focused on the process very well and stuck to the game plan. Tenacity was the key to our win today,” said Wan Tzy Hyi (GK) of Singapore Sports School.

“There were some parts that they caught up so good job to them, but luckily we picked it up,” added Tan Zay Hua (C) of SSP.

Singapore Sports School will play in the final against CHIJ Toa Payoh on Tuesday, April 21 at 3.50 p.m. while St. Margaret’s will meet Raffles Girls’ for the 3rd/4th placing match at 1.20 p.m. Both games will take place at Jurong East Sports Hall.
