Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 — Evergreen Secondary (EVG) pulled away in the second quarter to emerge 27–15 victors against Marsiling Secondary (MSL) in their last preliminary round game of the North Zone C Division Netball Championship.
Evergreen had previously won their games against Riverside and Woodlands Secondary with scores of 11–6 and 25–0 respectively. This win improved Evergreen to a 3–3 win-loss record but they could not qualify for Round 2 after they finished fourth in their group. Likewise, Marsiling are out of the competition with a 1–5 win-loss record.
The game was off to a slow start with both teams evenly matched, resulting in a 6–6 scoreline going into the second quarter.
It was then that Evergreen started to step up on their offence, executing a 6–2 scoring run. Evergreen’s Centre, Yolanda, was a key player who displayed laudable efforts in her attempts to intercept the ball and provide good on-court support for her teammates.
In the third quarter, Evergreen had better possession of the ball, but missed several of their shots at the net. This allowed Marsiling Goal Keeper, Atiqah, to feed on the offensive rebounds. Nevertheless, Evergreen kept their momentum as they continued to widen the gap to lead 18–12 at the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw Evergreen dominate the game, while Marsiling struggled with their inconsistent play. Evergreen kept on attacking to wrap up a 27–15 victory at the final whistle.
Evergreen’s captain, Qurrantu, said, “We played aggressively and maintained our performance throughout. We fought back whenever we lost the ball and I think the team played very well today.”
