Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Thursday, February 5, 2015 — Defending champions Singapore Sports School (SSP) defeated Admiralty Secondary (ADS) 40–3 in Group A of the preliminary round of the North Zone B Division Netball Championship.

The win give SSP a 4–0 win-loss record. The 2014 North Zone champions previously defeated North Vista, Punggol, and Naval Base Secondary 35–11, 59–3 and 61–1 respectively. A final group win over CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls’ School will ensure they proceed to second round as champions of Group A.

With Nicole Shin (Goal Attack) and Germaine Au (Goal Shooter) from SSP displaying great chemistry with their second passes and quick rotation, they managed to successfully pot their shots without much difficulty and pulled ahead to lead 13–0 by the end of the first quarter.

Towards the end of the second quarter, Admiralty were awarded possession of the ball after a contact foul was made on their Goal Shooter, Humairah, who converted to score the first point for her team. Despite having a smaller frame as compared to the SSP defenders, Admiralty’s WA, Yee Suan, executed several good runs by dodging past her defenders with her speed.

While Admiralty were patient with their passes when they had possession of the ball, the Sports School defenders were tenacious in challenging each pass. SSP’s shooters, Sherlyn Yip and Alysson Stewart, matched their defenders’ efforts by making their attempts count to add seven points to the scoreboard. Going into the third and final break, Sports School extended their lead to 30–1.

SSP’s Goal Shooter, Germaine Au, kicked off the final quarter with seven consecutive points to bring their lead to 37–1. SSP went on an 8–0 scoring run before Admiralty’s GA, Jia Hui, responded with a goal of her own. Admiralty were more coordinated towards the end of the final quarter and played a much better game, scoring two more points to end the game.

Sports School captain, Nicole Shin, said, “We played well today! We achieved our goals, which was to fill up the gaps in our defence and to flow the ball smoothly for our offence. We did better in the second quarter, and I’m very proud of the strong drives that came from my team.”

“Admiralty were one of the stronger opponents in our grouping. They put up a tough fight today and did well too,” she added.
