Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Thursday, February 5, 2015 – Evergreen Secondary (EVG) held on to their lead from the start to beat Woodlands Secondary (WDL) 25–0 for their third win in the first round of the North Zone C Division Netball Championship.

The win gives Evergreen a 3–1 win-loss record, as they were previously defeated by Ahmad Ibrahim. On the other hand, Woodlands currently hold a 0–3 win-loss record and are at the bottom of the group.

Worthy of mention was the Woodlands Centre, Syafinah, who displayed commendable efforts in her attempts to intercept the ball and make several turnovers. Woodland’s WD, Natasha, also produced good defensive work and manage to claim a couple of interceptions in the centre-third.

Evergreen dominated from the start, playing their game with short and accurate passes to move from one end of the court to another. They had little difficulty in finding their Goal Attack, Qurratu, who consistently added points with her good finishing. She contributed eight out of the 10 goals scored in the third quarter.

Despite the 10-point gap heading into the second half, both teams continued to put up a good fight but Evergreen showed a greater control of the game which limited Woodland’s chances. Woodlands had several attempts on offence, however, their shooters were unable to convert on any of them. Evergreen, on their side, took no time in capitalising on the rebounds and executed their turnovers well.

As the final quarter commenced, Evergreen kept their attacks going and scored four consecutive goals. They outscored Woodlands 5–0 in the last quarter to take home a 25–0 win.

Evergreen’s captain, Qurratu, said, “We put in a lot of effort for today’s match. Even though we were leading by the first half, we continued to put up a good fight in the second. We were not complacent and we did our best.”

“Woodlands put up a good fight, their defenders were very focused and they didn’t give up,” she added.
