Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, January 30, 2015 — Anderson Secondary (AND) defeated Woodlands Secondary (WDL) 46–22 in the preliminary round of the North Zone B Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.

Anderson improve to a 2–1 win-loss record, while Woodland have lost all their games.

Soh Yuan Xiang (AND #6) led all scorers with 24 points, while Ang Ting Feng (WDL #5) had seven points.

In the first quarter, the match was intense and fast-paced. Both teams did not put up good defences, allowing opponents to break through and take open shots. Anderson took a 16–10 lead at the end of the quarter.

Woodlands fell behind in the second quarter, missing multiple layup opportunities. Anderson widened the gap with a 16-point run, with Yuan Xiang (AND #6) leading the offence. Anderson held a 32–10 lead at the end of the half.

Anderson held on to their lead for the last two quarters as well. Woodlands could not catch up with Anderson’s fast-paced offence and committed multiple turnovers. However, Ang Ting Feng (WDL #5) facilitated the ball well for layup chances.

Anderson eventually clinched a 46–22 victory and will proceed to the next round.

Anderson’s top scorer, Soh Yuan Xiang (#6) commented, “The team did not give up. Despite the fact that we are not a very well-known school for basketball, I think that my team did very well. I’m very proud of their performance this season.”

Anderson’s captain, Georgene Low (#4) said, “I think the juniors can improve more as most of the players that played are seniors. I think we can set examples for them so that they can learn and improve when they get to play in future. I also feel that we need more teamwork in the game.”
