Republic Polytechnic, Thursday, January 22, 2015 — Yio Chu Kang Secondary (YCK) defeated Marsiling Secondary (MSL) 27–6 in the North Zone C Division Netball Championship.
YCK stifled MSL’s offence in the first half to open up a nine-point lead, which they maintained for the rest of the game as they cruised to victory.
With good ball movement around the court, YCK capitalized on MSL’s mistakes to take a 7–1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, MSL stepped up their defence which forced YCK to make shorter passes to maintain possession of the ball. Their tightened defence helped reflect a closer contest in that quarter at 7–4.
Going into the third and final break, YCK extended their lead to 21–5.
Despite the 16-point gap heading in the last quarter, both teams continued to put up a good fight, but YCK showed a greater control of the game which limited MSL’s chances.
The attack of both teams also started to suffer from bad shooting spells and stepping errors. As a result, it was a low-scoring affair towards the end of the game with just seven goals between the teams, as YCK wrapped up a 27–6 victory.
Unfazed by the loss, 13-year-old Nurul Syazwina, captain of MSL, said, “We played better than our previous game with Woodlands Secondary. We went for every ball and fought till the end.”
She added, “Yio Chu Kang played well today and they did a goob job! Congratulations to them!”
