Republic Polytechnic, Friday, November 14, 2014 — Defending champions Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) clinched their second Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Netball Championship title after defeating Temasek Polytechnic (TP) 59–45 in their final game of the season.

It was an intense battle of attrition which saw both teams deadlocked for the first three quarters, with multiple lead exchanges. NP managed to pull away in the last quarter with the help of their on-form Goal Attack Toh Kai Wei and Goal Shooter Claire Png, who towered over defenders with her 1.83m frame.

“NP put up a great fight,” said Dinah Amirah, captain of TP. “They were consistent and displayed resilience and hardwork throughout the entire game. Kudos to them for retaining their title!”

“All in all, I’m proud of my team for fighting till the very end of this season. We will definitely work harder and only get better from here,” she added.

NP sealed a 62–34 victory over Republic Polytechnic (RP) in their opening game. They then went on to defeat Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) 76–16 and 67–37 respectively. The team finished the season undefeated as they cruised past Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 52–34.

In a rare event which saw three teams – SP, TP, AND NYP – finish with identical win-loss records, it was SP that secured second place by virtue of a superior point differential despite losing to TP 34–41. TP clinched the bronze medal, while NYP settled for 4th place.

“I’m really proud of my team,” said SP captain Priscillia Lau. “Our girls have worked hard for this season and their hard work in trainings paid off. Teamwork definitely played a big role in our win.”

When asked about their team’s goal for IVP, she said, “We’re aiming for top 3!”
