Republic Polytechnic, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 — Defending champions Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) recorded their fourth straight win, defeating Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 52–34 in their round robin game of the Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Netball Championship.

NP have yet to concede a game, while SP now hold a 2–2 win-loss record, tying them with Nanyang Polytechnic.

SP put up a solid performance on both ends in the opening quarter, as they established an early 14–11 lead.

The second quarter was a defensive slugfest that saw six lead changes between both teams. The Goal Keepers of both teams, Nicole Seyler of NP and Sindhu Nair of SP, were effective in preventing the ball from getting into the hands of the respective Goal Shooters. However, NP prevailed as two successive goals from Goal Attack Toh Kai Wei gave them a 22–20 lead at the end of the quarter.

NP commenced the second half on a 5–0 run, and opted for high lob passes to their Goal Shooter, Claire Png, who towered over the SP defence. Turnovers and missed attempts were not helping SP, as they relinquished their hold on the game. Regaining control of the game, NP held a six-point lead to end the third quarter.

NP showed their defensive prowess in the final quarter, holding SP to nil in the first eight minutes of the quarter. NP closed out the game on a 17–5 run, clinching the 52–34 victory.

NP captain Siti Nameera said, “Our main goal today was to restart, restart and restart. If we find a mistake, we refresh, restart and support each other from there. That was very evident in the game today, and I feel that we had a lot of support on and off the court and that helped to change our game play.”

She added, “We focus a lot on the process on getting to our goal, and the new situation of TP losing to NYP gives us a little bit more motivation. Still, we are not going to be complacent and are going to be more focused on playing them in the upcoming game. We will stay humble and continue to play the game that we have always been playing.”

NP will next face Temasek Polytechnic in the closing game of the season. The game will be played at 7.45 p.m. at Republic Polytechnic. SP will face RP in the earlier game at 6.30 p.m.
