OCBC Arena, Sunday, June 22, 2014 — Singapore recorded a fourth-placed finish with a 0–7 loss in the 3rd/4th playoff match of the World University Floorball Championship.

Despite being overwhelmed by the Swiss in size, speed and aggression, the Singaporean girls were unafraid to take hard knocks and played an aggressive game on both the offensive and defensive end.

Singapore goalie, Fariza Begum (#99) had an outstanding game, making several impressive saves against the Swiss attempts. “Personally, I think we did very very well in this tournament. We definitely gave them a hard-fought game. This is our first time playing against Switzerland, and it has definitely taught me a lot of stuff in goalkeeping, such as positioning. It will definitely help make me stronger physically and mentally as a goalkeeper,” said the Nanyang Technological University student.

Head coach Jaime Cheong was proud of the Singaporeans. She said, “I think the girls had really good determination. I’ve never seen them play so hard before. Despite the physical fatigue, they just kept on driving and defending, back and forth, every period, every minute, every second. They’re excellent.”

“I think the international standard will shape them as role models, for their respective universities, and for all the young floorballers out there in the local scene, especially for the female players. I think it will also motivate and inspire them to train harder, because they now know what is required in an international tournament,” added the 32-year-old.

Singapore finished the tournament with an overall 2–2 win-loss record.
