Republic Polytechnic, Friday, May 16, 2014 — Temasek Junior College (TJC) rode a strong last period to beat Catholic Junior College (CJC) 8–1 in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship.
The win gives TJC a 2–2 win-loss record while CJC have lost their first three matches.
The first period saw TJC score three goals within the first five minutes. However, a stumble from the TJC goalkeeper allowed Josephine Arriola (CJC #11) to narrow the deficit to two. CJC were unable to capitalize on their power-play advantage after Lim Qian Wei (TJC #3) was given a 2-minute penalty and the first period ended with TJC with a 3–1 lead.
TJC’s proficient stickwork saw CJC struggle to gain possession of the ball in the remaining two periods. TJC continued with their shots on CJC’s goal and eventually scored two more goals in the second period through Lee Hong Hui (TJC #29) and Gladys Yeo (TJC #5).
TJC continued with their dominating performance in the last period and eventually found the back of the CJC net another three more times before the end of the match.
With regards to her team’s performance, CJC captain, Michelle Tay (CJC #10), felt that her team fought hard and had tried their best against a good team like TJC.
Gladys Yeo (TJC #5) commented, “It was an exciting match and though we didn’t meet the target of getting five goals in the last period, we are happy to have won.”
TJC will be up against National Junior College (NJC) and Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) in their remaining two group stage matches. CJC, on the other hand, have three more matches.
