Republic Polytechnic, Monday, April 28, 2014 — Defending champions Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) defeated Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) (ACS(I)) 74–43 in the National A Division Netball Championship. This is ACJC’s second win of the season, after beating Anderson Junior College 77–47 in their first game.

ACJC started the game well, scoring three straight goals. However, ACS(I) responded by going on their own personal 3–0 run to tie the game up. ACJC’s Goal Shooter made use of her height to catch a lot of high lobs from her teammates. Her consistent shooting helped ACJC to build a comfortable in the first quarter. The ACS(I) Goal Keeper and Goal Defence were unable to find a way to stop her in the first quarter.

ACJC’s Wing Defence and Centre stood out defensively. Both players worked well to stop any ACS(I) entry passes into the attacking third. They also broke up and intercepted passes in the middle third.

ACS(I) were able to find their footing in the second quarter. Good shooting from their Goal Shooter helped keep them in the game. ACJC led by 20 at the half-time break.

The third quarter was better for ACS(I). They were able to stop ACJC’s Goal Shooter on a couple of possession, as well as score on offence. In this period, they rattled off six straight points to trim the deficit. ACS(I)’s Goal Shooter and Goal Attack work well on offence, as their running and link-up play fooled ACJC’s defence a couple of times. ACJC made a strong run toward’s the end of the quarter to tie the quarter 14–14.

ACS(I) implemented an interesting defensive strategy in the final quarter. Their Goal Keeper and Goal Defence double teamed the ACJC Goal Shooter in a ‘sandwich’ manoeuvre, while their Centre and Wing Defence did the same to the ACJC Goal Attack. They were successful in containing the ACJC Goal Shooter, but failed in preventing the Goal Attack from entering the attacking third. This proved to be their downfall, as ACJC’s Goal Attack was able to score freely. Most of ACJC’s goals in the final quarter came from the Goal Attack. ACJC eventually took the game 74–43.
