Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 — Hannah Quek of Raffles Girls’ School set a new meet record in the girls’ C Division 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 6.23 seconds at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships.

The previous record was held by Shana Lim, then of Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School. She clocked a time of 1 minute 06.31 seconds in 2007 to set the mark.

Jamie Koo of Raffles Girls’ came in second in a time of 1 minute 09.66 seconds, while Carolyn Koh of Nanyang Girls’ High School rounded up the podium with a time of 1:13.81.

Hannah, who also won the 50m backstroke title, said, “It was a surprise that I actually broke it because I was not expecting it. I am quite happy with getting golds over both distances as I think I only had a bronze last year. I want to thank all the Swimfast coaches for helping me.”

It is a new personal best for Hannah, and places her as the second fastest female Singaporean swimmer in this event this year, behind Tan Jing-E’s 1:05.76.
