Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 — Quah Zheng Wen of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) won the A Division Boys’ 100m backstroke title at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships in a new meet record of 56.08 seconds.

The previous mark was held by Rainer Ng, then of Raffles Institution, when he swam a time of 58.16 seconds at the 51st National Schools meet.

Andy Lo of RI came in second in a time of 59.29 seconds, while Jeremy Tan of ACS(I) took home the bronze with a time of 1 minute 01.78 seconds.

Zheng Wen, who holds the national open mark of 55.99 seconds, said, “It was pretty near my best time, so I am quite happy about it as I achieved it with limited training. I am very sick so I don’t have much time to train and everything, so it was a real bonus for me.”

This swim is Zheng Wen’s second quickest ever. He now has the top six local times in history, and eight of the 11 sub 57s marks.
