PESEB, Tuesday, March 8, 2014 — Saint Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) trounced Jurong Junior College (JJC) 75–0 to book a place in the semi-final of the National A Division Rugby Championship. Derek Ng (SAJC #10), Sean Lee (SAJC #14) and Kelvin Yau (SAJC #13) all had two tries apiece to lead their team in scoring.

SAJC suffered from a bout of the nerves early on, as their passes were off the mark. As a result, this led to players committing knock-ons. Despite their early troubles, they were able to find their breakthrough after about five minutes. Derek Ng (SAJC #10) was able to break through the JJC line to score the first try.

Possession mostly went in SAJC’s favour, as they were able to get the ball back from JJC each time. The ball rarely entered SAJC’s half of the field at all. Sean Lee (SAJC #14) pulled off a nice side-step on the left flank, fooling his defender completely, and went on to finish the play by scoring the try.

SAJC scored another four tries before the half-time, putting them up by a comfortable 32–0. Jonathan Lin (SAJC #18) had the best of the bunch. He bounced off a couple of JJC tackles like a pinball before diving over the try line.

The second half saw SAJC score another 43 points. Good running from Kon Fu Yuan (SAJC #15) opened up the JJC defence. He then dumped the ball down to Kelvin (SAJC #13) for the easy try.

JJC did not threaten to score at all throughout the half, as they were unable to advance into SAJC territory.

Fu Yuan (SAJC #15) then scored a try of his own, embarking on a mazy run through the JJC defence before putting the ball past the try line.

The final few minutes of the half saw SAJC score a flurry of tries, as the JJC defence were unable to stop SAJC by that point. SAJC ended the game 75–0 victors, effectively sealing their qualification for the semi-final.

Joint-top try scorer, Sean Lee (#14), said, “I am quite please with our performance. Although, we have lots more to work on before the semi-final and finals. Looking at the groups now we have to look out for both Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and Raffles Institution. We cannot take any of those teams lightly.”
