Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, April 7, 2014 — Ahmad Ibrahim defeated Queensway 46–39 in the final group game of the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship.
This is the final group game for both teams for round one. Both teams failed to qualify for the second round of the National Championship.
Choo Yi Zhao (AIS #10) and Ikhide (AIS #11) led their team with 13 points each, while Rafio Pacifico (QSS #8) had a game-high 18 points.
Ikhide (AIS #11) went on a strong drive to score the first basket, putting Ahmad Ibrahim 2–0 up. Lakksman Ganapathy (AIS #13) scored one outside the key to contribute another two points.
Rafio (QSS #8) took the lead to kick off Queensway’s game, scoring two straight baskets in the paint to level at 4–4. Chua Hao Jun (QSS #12) was strong on both offensive and defensive rebounds for his team, but Ahmad Ibrahim still managed to pull away to 10–7 by the end of the first quarter.
Ahmad Ibrahim had high conversion rate in the second quarter, scoring five points from freethrows alone. They outscored Queensway 17–10 this quarter to lead 27–17.
Lakksman (AIS #13) was forced to stay out of the second half due to an injury. He managed to contribute 11 points in this game. His teammate Ikhide (AIS #11) stepped up offensively thereafter as he drove strongly into the paint to convert, scoring eight points in the third quarter alone.
In the final quarter, there were many good scoring opportunities but bad finishing cost Ahmad Ibrahim the chance to pull away further. Queensway put together several good offensive plays towards the end and outscored their opponents 14–4. However they came back into the game too late and Ahmad Ibrahim won 46–39.
Ahmad Ibrahim captain, Chee Kian (#15) said, “We did badly at first, but after the third quarter we did pretty up to standard. We are aiming for national top four next year.”
