Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 31, 2014 — River Valley High School defeated Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TGKS) 35–18 in the National B Division Girls Netball Championship.

This win puts River Valley top of their group, where they currently hold a 2–0 win–loss record.

Quick passing from River Valley was key to their offence in the first quarter as they established a 10–5 lead. Their players were able to use them to evade the Tanjong Katong defenders, often finding themselves with acres of space.

The TKGS offence was struggling, as their entry passes into the goal circle were stopped by River Valley’s Goal Defence and Goal Keeper.

River Valley’s Goal Keeper was instrumental in repelling the TKGS attacks, conceding only three points in the second quarter as her team took a 20–8 lead into the half-time break.

The seond half saw River Valley continue their dominance. Their Goal Shooter was on point, making most of her shots within the goal circle. TKGS could not find an answer for the fluid offence of River Valley, allowing them to extend their lead to 27–13 at the end of the third quarter.

An 8–5 fourth quarter gave River Valley the 35–18 win.

River Valley captain, Jieshi, said, “I think it was a tight match for the players. There were a lot of turnovers committed and we did well to recover them. Our defence was good today, that was what helped us to the win. We struggled early on as we did not get into our rhythm in the first quarter. We were more steady by the second quarter. We hope to get top four in Nationals, but we will take one game at a time.”
