Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, March 24, 2014 — It was heartbreak for Anglican High as Anderson Secondary beat them by a narrow 36–35 scoreline in the first round of the National B Division Girls Basketball Championship. Syirin (ANDSS #9) scored a game-high 12 points while Ng Qi Hui (AHS #10) had 11 points to pace her team.
Both teams were evenly matched in their first game of the 2014 National Championships. In the first half, Anderson started off shaky, misplacing passes which allowed Anglican High to capitalise on their mistakes. Anderson responded with fast breaks, drawing constant fouls from Anglican High to secure points with a number of free throws.
The second half of the match proved more exciting with aggressive play by both sides. Misplaced passes and opportunities gained by Anderson allowed them to gain a foothold with a 12–11 score. Both sides became more opportunistic with their offence, taking more shots. Choo Jie Ying (ANDSS #4) used her towering frame to claim a number of defensive rebounds, making a difference for her team.
Anglican High ended up trailing by more than 10 points nearing the end of the game. Clarice Tan (AHS #5) was instrumental in making a comeback, capitalising on turnovers from Anderson. She also made two free throws with seven seconds to go. Anglican High looked to make a comeback with three seconds left, however they were unable to make it come to fruition. This allowed Anderson to seal a narrow 36–35 win in the encounter.
