B Division Softball Tanjong Katong Girls School vs CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent

Kallang Diamond, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 – Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TKGS) won the National B Division Softball Championship after beating defending champions CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent 7–5.

This was a rematch of last year’s final where St. Theresa’s Convent had won 7–5.

TKGS started out strong in the first inning with Angelique Tongson (TKGS #17), Sanggita Supranamiam (TKGS #7) and Yeo Gin Lin (TKGS #21) scoring a run each run for a 3–0 lead.

The second inning saw no run scored by either schools.

St. Theresa’s came alive in the third inning, scoring four runs. Dinie Raman (STC #5) hit a two-run home run to lead the comeback and Nurul Farah (STC #24) added two more runs for a 4–3 lead.

However, TKGS responded with Aingeal Keong (TKGS #19) scoring a run to tie the game at 4–4.

The lead changed hands again when Arisa Thaweeskulchai (STC #39) took back the lead for St. Theresa’s in the fourth inning.

The game was finally decided in the bottom of the fourth when TKGS scored three runs.

Despite getting runners on base, St. Theresa’s were unable to score any runs in the fifth inning and had to concede the crown to TKGS.

When asked how she felt about the game, TKGS captain, Sanggita Supranamiam, said that she was very happy and that the finally got what they wanted. She added that she had a great team with her and that the went all out.

Dinie Raman said that she was really happy to have made it this far.

Leading up to the final, St. Theresa’s Convent were undefeated, beating National Junior College, Dunman High School, New Town Secondary and Orchid Park Secondary in the first round.

Meanwhile, TKGS breezed through the first round, beating Geylang Methodist Secondary, Nan Hua High, Assumption English School and Fajar Secondary.

In the second round, TKGS and St. Theresa’s Convent were in the same group together with Chung Cheng High and Methodist Girls’ School (MGS).

St. Theresa’s Convent finished top of the group after a three-way tie with TKGS and MGS.

St. Theresa’s Convent beat MGS and Chung Cheng but lost to TKGS. TKGS lost to MGS but defeated St. Theresa’s and Chung Cheng.

In the semi-finals, St. Theresa’s Convent defeated Raffles Girls’ School 7–3 to secure a spot in the final while TKGS beat River Valley High 3–1 for their place.
