Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), March 12, Wednesday, 2014 — Raffles Institution (RI) defeated Temasek Junior College (TJC) 7–2 in the National A Division Girls Water Polo Championship. Dayna Ang (RI(JC) #5) led all scorers with three goals, while Xiaoli (TJC #6) had two goals for her team.
The first quarter was a quiet affair. Raffles took the early lead when Clarinda Tan (RI #6) scored on the break. TJC’s defence struggled a little as their defenders failed to close out on the RI players on a couple of occasions.
Dayna (RI #5) scored another goal in the second quarter, putting Raffles in cruise control. They were able to shut out TJC on defense and the Raffles keeper was rarely trouble at all.
The second half was more of the same story, although TJC managed to pull back with two goals from Xiaoli (TJC #6). Raffles emerged 7–2 winners, putting themselves in a good position for the championship.
Raffles captain, Joanna Chua (#1), said, “I am glad that we managed to score despite the tight defence put up by TJC. This was our second win after winning against Anglo-Chinese Junior College. We hope to be able to be champions and maintain our legacy. We also want to wish the best to the rest of the teams as well.”
Raffles top scorer, Dayna Ang (#5), said, “I think we put in our best and we did quite well today. We put our juniors into the game and we are glad that they were still able to perform well.”
