Nan Chiau High School, Monday, February 24, 2014 — Singapore Sports School (SSP) handed Nan Chiau High School (NCH) a 5–0 defeat in Round 2 of the North Zone B Division Badminton Championship.

Singapore Sports School entered this matchup without dropping any sets in the preliminary rounds. They have beaten all their opponents 5–0 and this unbeaten streak looks set to continue for some time.

In contrast, Nan Chiau had a tougher time in the preliminary rounds. They lost their opening match defeat and just made it into Round 2.

Darryl Sim wasted no time in securing the first point for Singapore Sports School by defeating Sng Yi Yuan 21–3, 21–5 in the first singles match.

In the first doubles match, Justin Toh and Glenn Ang of Singapore Sports School saw off Tan Chu Hou and Chong Jia Sheng of Nan Chiau comfortably in two sets, 21–8, 21–9.

The second singles match was a more intense affair with long rallies. Samuel Ong of Nan Chiau constantly produced overhead clear shots that forced Muhammed Elaf Tan of Singapore Sports School to the backcourt before producing overhead drop shots that sent Elaf scrambling to the forecourt. But Elaf was able to overcome the pressure by taking the first set 21–6.

The second set saw Elaf stepping up his rhythm to defeat Samuel 21–4, thus attaining the third point that ensured Singapore Sports School’s victory.

In the second doubles match, Wong Teck Jin and Royston Loh of Singapore Sports School were up against Bryan Chua Jun Xian and Chan Jun Rong of Nan Chiau. Unfazed by the defeat that befell their team, Bryan and Jun Rong tried to put up a good fight. However, their opponents, Teck Jin and Royston, exploited their defensive frailties and frequent miscommunication to settle the game in two straight sets, 21–10, 21–3.

Chang Yao Jie Darrel rounded up a dominant display by Singapore Sports School by dismantling Koh Casey Chester 21–1, 21–5.

Singapore Sports School will face Canberra Secondary School on Wednesday, February 26, where they will look to continue their unbeaten streak. Nan Chiau will play Montfort Secondary School on the same day in a bid to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
