Bukit Merah Secondary School, Thursday, February 27, 2014 — CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent (STC) survived a late rally by St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary (SAC) to win 5–4 in the first round of the National B Division Girls Floorball Championship. Vanessa Tan (STC #11) and Alicia Chia (SAC #3) had two goals apiece to lead their teams.
The win lifts STC to the top of Group I with a 2–0 win–loss record. They beat Greendale Secondary 5–3 in their first match. St. Anthony’s Canossian fall to the bottom to the group with a 0–1 record.
The game was marked by very physical play from both teams, players were body-checking each other with impunity. STC found the initial breakthrough, Vanessa (STC #11) fired a quick shot that caught the SAC keeper napping. SAC were able to create some good chances in front of the STC goal, but were unable to convert them.
SAC clawed back into the game in the second period, Sammi (SAC #2) fired a long-range shot from the mid-court that found the top corner of the STC net. Her goal drew wild celebrations from the SAC bench, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
The third period saw both teams locked in a fierce battle for the win. After STC scored a power play to take a two-goal lead, SAC responded by scoring three of their own to lead 4–3. Alicia (SAC #3) was crucial for her team, scoring two goals in quick succession. Despite this, STC managed to hold their nerves to pull out the win. Olga Holmberg (STC #6) and Thurka (STC #36) both scored in the final three minutes to put STC ahead for good, securing the 5–4 win.

STC only won due to biased refereeing, where penalties were given to STC when SAC did not break the rules. SAC was at an disadvantage.
SAC team names are also spelt wrongly. Nawai should be spelt as Nawal, Chan Wen Wei as Chan Wei Wen and Zhideneen Chia as Deneen Chia.
