Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, February 21, 2014 — Jurong Secondary continued their march to the semi-final with a 62–13 win over Jurong West in the second round of the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Nur Khardiyanty (Jurong #4) led all scorers with 16 points.

Jurong dominated from the start, forcing turnovers early. They would then head down the court on fast breaks to score on the other end. Nur Khardiyanty (Jurong #4) benefited immensely, scoring seven points in the first quarter. Jurong West seemed unable to cope with the pressure. Looking extremely fatigued toward the end of the quarter.

Any concept of offence seemed foreign to Jurong West, as they wilted in the face of the strong Jurong defence. Each time they had a half court set, they would either rush to put up a shot, or turnonver the ball on a violation. Jurong ended the first half up 29–7.

Jurong West was held scoreless in the third quarter, partly due to the fact that they were clearly intimidated by Jurong. The difference in skill level could be seen, with the Jurong defence consistently swarming Jurong West ballhandlers. Each time, Jurong would generate turnovers out of it, scoring on the other end.

Jurong was able to play with their reserves for the most of the game, giving their starters a well-needed rest. Even so, their reserves held the fort well. They managed to outscore the Jurong West starters and kept a respectable lead. Jurong won the game 62–13, putting them one step closer to the zonal semi-final, as well as qualification for the national championship.

Jurong captain, Nur Shahidah (#15), commented, “We did well in our on-court communication as compared to previous game. We need to continue to work on our rebounding and boxing out.”
