Jurong West Sports Hall, Friday, February 14, 2014 — Nanyang Girls’ High, River Valley High, Kranji Secondary and Methodist Girls’ School, the top four from 2013, are dominating again in the 2014 West Zone B Division Netball Championship.

In Group A, defending champions, Nanyang Girls’ High School, were untouchable. Nanyang beat Jurongville Secondary (61–11), Tanglin Secondary (62–10), Commonwealth Secondary (44–19), Zhenghua Secondary (49–13) and Juying Secondary (54–7). Commonwealth beat Tanglin 30–12 to progress as first runners-up.

Claire Seah, 16, standing at 179cm, has been unstoppable. Based with her sharp shooting, Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) dominated in Group B. MGS beat Yuan Ching Secondary (48–15) and 2013 quarter-finalists, Bukit Panjang Government High (51-16). MGS progress as the leader of the group to the second round. Bukit Panjang Government High beat Yuan Ching Secondary 27–19 to progress as first runners-up.

In Group C, Kranji Secondary, who qualified for the national championship for the first time in 2013, lost to West Spring Secondary 28–29 in a nail-biting match. Kranji were leading right from the opening whistle until the last quarter. However, they could not keep composed and allowed West Spring to take the victory. West Spring defeated Hong Kah Secondary (34–7), Chestnut Drive Secondary (27–7), and Clementi Town Secondary (21–14), and will most likely progress as the leader of the group.

In Group D, River Valley High kept their opponents to single digits. They defeated Hillgrove Secondary (37–7), Unity Secondary (54–1) and Pioneer Secondary (62–5). However, they have yet to play with the strongest opponent in their group, Nan Hua High. Nan Hua High, who appeared in three straight West Zone netball finals from 2010 to 2012, did not make it past the first round in 2013. They are looking hungry for the zonal title this year. They defeated Unity Secondary (55–5), Hua Yi Secondary (79–3), Pioneer Secondary (69–8) and Hillgrove Secondary (46–19). River Valley High will play Nan Hua High to determine who progresses as the winner of the group.
