Nanyang Technological University, Thursday, September 5, 2013 — The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) doubles duo of Desmond Boey and Benjamin Tan recovered from 7–2 down to beat the Singapore Management University (SMU) pair of Dominic Boey and Terence Lim 9–7 in the tennis semi-final of the 2013 Singapore University Games (SUniG).

The SMU pair were quick to close out the earlier games with a couple of good forehand and backhand smashes and passing shots against their opponents. However, as the match proceeded, the NTU duo managed to regain their composure and gradually work their way back up to secure their place in the final.

“We consolidated the game when it was much earlier,” said Dominic Boey from SMU. “Overall, it was a good game. I think we knew each other’s playing style quite well. Too well, actually.” Facing Dominic on the opposite side was his twin brother, Desmond. Terence and the twins also know each other from their previous tennis experiences.

“We knew it was going to be a close match,” said the NTU duo. “At first we were trying too much and were too aggressive but things started getting better later,” Benjamin said.

“I guess you could say that at 7–2 down we were more relaxed and weren’t as stressed about losing anymore so we could be more natural and started getting our consistency back,” added Desmond.

The NTU duo will play against Justin Low and Oscar Sixten Ingemar Svaerd of NUS in the men’s doubles final on Monday, September 9, at NTU.
