Kallang Tennis Centre, Thursday, May 9, 2013 — Raffles Institution (RI) beat Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) 4–1 in the finals of the National A Division Girls’ Tennis Championship to take the championship title for the third year in a row.

Whilst the winner of championship title was determined by the end of the fourth match, which saw RI gain an overall 3–1 lead, the RI team remained focused on cheering for their teammates, Jean Iau and Sabrina Tan, who were still trying to fend off the ACJC duo of Rachel Loy and Nichole Tan.

“Every point matters,” said Jennifer Wu, captain of the RI girls’ tennis team, while still keeping her eyes on the match. After a long and tough fight put up by the ACJC girls, the RI pair eventually won in three sets with a score of 7–6, 6–7, 6–2.

Jennifer commented: “All the players fought very well even though we knew that ACJC was actually a very strong team, like they have a lot of individual players that are very good. But I think, outside of the court, our whole team is very bonded, like those players who played came here (Kallang) to warm up at 6.30 a.m. while the rest came an hour before the matches started. So our whole team, whether playing or not, they are very supportive towards this so I think for that, we are champions.”

“We would like to thank the school and the principal for their support. Our principal actually came down today so we feel really honoured because she doesn’t come to all the matches, so we would really like to thank them,” added Jennifer with a smile.

RI also took home the championship trophy in the boys’ tennis final against Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) that same day.
